Today is the last day of 2011 – tomorrow will be a brand new day in a brand new year filled with tons of potential. Potential for great wines, great company and great food – so, let’s ring the year in with style with a great glass of sparkling wine. The white version of this wine was my original favourite white sparkling wine from Ontario – the rose version is a very close second to my favourite.
Peller Estates Ice Cuvee Rose
This particular sparkler is made with a blend of Chardonnay and Pinot Noir with just a touch of Cabernet Franc to provide some extra fruitiness to the finished wine. The unique component to Peller Estates’sparkling wines is that when the dosage is added after disgorgement the dosage is a combination of Vidal and Cabernet Franc Icewines. In terms of flavours and aromas, Ice Cuvee Rose shows aromas of strawberry, peach, watermelon and currant which transfer to the palate where they are met with red berries, a slight hit of spice and some light tannins which make the wine finish dry as opposed to the slight sweetness that is detected earlier in the palate.
This wine retails for $35.20 per bottle plus deposit and is available at a wide variety of Vintages locations throughout the province. Alternatively, you can also pick up some of this delicious sparkling wine at the winery itself or at Vineyard Estate Wines shops throughout the province.
